Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
These Programs provide additional opportunities to immigrate to Canada, taking into account the needs of each particular province and territory. Applicants interested in immigrating to Canada may consider participating in the PNP if they meet the criteria of their chosen province. If a candidate applies for any PNP, the process will consist of two, provincial and federal, stages.
The Main Features of Provincial Nominee Programs:
Purpose: Provincial immigration programs are designed to attract immigrants who can meet the specific needs of an individual province.
Provincial Involvement: Each province is actively involved in administering its own programs, and they can set their own quotas for admitting immigrants.
Program diversity: Each province and territory in Canada has its own programs and eligibility criteria. For example, there are programs for high-skilled workers, skilled tradespeople, entrepreneurs and investors.
Connection to Express Entry: Many provinces link some of their programs to Express Entry, allowing applicants to use this federal mechanism to receive a provincial nomination and thus increase their chances of receiving an invitation for permanent residence.
Provincial Support: The advantage of PNP is that successful candidates receive support from the province in their immigration process, including assistance with job search and adjustment.
Adjustment requirements: Candidates selected through the PNP are required to live and work in the province that nominated them for at least some time after becoming a permanent resident.
